When cash is king, dividend-paying companies have special appeal. Even in this shrinking economy, companies like Campbell Soup (NYSE: CPB) are finding ways to increase payouts.

One ETF actively seeks out stocks with long records of paying dividends; the State Street SPDR Dividend ETF (AMEX: SDY) may be interesting to investors in these turbulent times. Although the SPDR Dividend fund has not dodged the nearly 40% rout of the Dow Jones Industrial average completely, it has fared better than the overall market in the past year, turning in only a 29% decline.

Fund specifics
The SPDR Dividend fund tracks the S&P High Yield Dividend Aristocrats Index, which is a select group of roughly 50 companies that have increased their dividends every year for at least 25 years. Investing in such long-term dividend-paying stocks should be less risky, as they are not prone to cutting their dividends. As you would expect, the fund carries a healthy dividend yield, which is currently at 5.5%.

Although dividends may carry more weight on the street these days, the fund's selections aren't giving up on the prospect of capital growth as well. Traditionally, financial companies have paid regular dividends, so it should come as no surprise that the fund has 40% of its assets in the financial sector -- well ahead of the roughly 20% allocated to utilities. Synovus Financial (NYSE: SNV), Associated Banc (Nasdaq: ASBC), and Comerica (NYSE: CMA) round out the top three holdings, while non-financial stocks include Gannett (NYSE: GCI) and Consolidated Edison (NYSE: ED).

Fund prospects and risks
As you can see, the SPDR Dividend fund has two fairly concentrated sector bets. Even though the fund requires a history of dividend payments for its investments, that doesn't guarantee that it will manage to avoid losses from high-yielding stocks that are in the process of running their businesses into the ground.

In particular, with discussion of possible tax hikes on dividend income if Democrats win the presidency, the election may well prompt a sell-off in these stocks. Yet with dividends prized as proof that a company can generate cash, it's hard to envision this as a severe risk. The fund has an established track record and a low expense ratio, along with a portfolio that does have at least some exposure to various sectors and stocks.

Portfolio fit?
For investors looking for a core portfolio holding, this fund should not be considered a proxy for a broadly diversified fund such as the Vanguard Extended Market Index ETF. However, the fund's portfolio of long-term dividend-paying companies has thus far protected an investor to some extent during the overall decline in the market. With capital gains a fleeting target these days, the stable payments that dividends provide could make this fund a delightful alternative to less cash-flow focused investments.

You still have to do the majority of the work that gets you to that threshold. The balance is benefit vs. effort and cost with your goal to still have quality products, services and information.

With its help you can also protect your confidential web-pages and or directories from scanning and showing at the SE searching results, very important feature many web-masters solve with "tons" of Java or even Perl coding instead of one line string in the robots.txt file that will forbid to scan "download", so-called "thank you" pages or anything you want! Next point is to have a textual info. The simple declaration of content rich web-site is not enough, SEs need text to scan.

Clear to follow links. If you have Flash or Java applet navigation menu, make sure to duplicate somewhere and include HTML links as well. Having "site map" page with all link connections of your site not only does it help your potential visitors, but SEs as well.

All link names, inside your informational content, are to contain your related keywords or phrases, not just "click here" or "download here".

Avoid a lot of javascripts, cascade style sheet tags or a lot of image tags at the top of the page that could occupy more than a page of HTML source code with almost no textual info. If you have java or .css coding save them as separate files and upload on request, leaving one string of code in your HTML document only. Let me explain the reasoning behind this phenomenon.

The truth is, all affiliate marketers procrastinate, and they tend to "put things off, or will do that later." This relates directly to our enjoyment factor of the task in which we are currently involved with.

The unsuccessful affiliate marketer starts off their day with good intentions and will go off to their computer or desk, ready and willing themselves to become successful, they sit there and think of something that they want to do, and get started.

Time flies as they are enjoying themselves, but they reach a point where the task involves an unfamiliar procedure or detail, after a while they realise that the current task is tedious, mundane or too difficult, it then becomes very easy to say "I will do that later," they will then find something that is easier or more enjoyable to do.

Therefore, they stop doing the current activity and do something more enjoyable, hence they are procrastinating the initial task. This is fine, until the now current task involves something that they do not fully understand or are unable to complete, they then say to themselves "I will finish this off later" and move on to something else, a pattern is now evolving, they are now procrastinating the second task of the day, and so on.

At the end of the day, they have achieved very little, none of their tasks have been completed and they are no further forward, yet they have been busy all day!

Whereas, a successful affiliate marketer will arrive at their computer or desk, knowing exactly what they need to achieve that day, and they get started.

Everything is running smoothly until the task involves an unfamiliar procedure or detail, this is now the time to procrastinate! They stop whatever they are doing, and say to themselves "I will finish this off later," they then make a decision, they either decide to research the problem in order to resolve it themselves, or they find someone that can solve the problem for them. They do not proceed any further with their current task or start a new task, until a solution to the problem is forthcoming. They know that their task will not be completed until "that problem" has been resolved. With the problem resolved, they return to the initial task and continue on to its completion.

At the end of the day, they have achieved more than expected, because they have learnt a new method or procedure, their tasks have been completed. They are now prepared and ready to start bringing in financial income with the completed project.

At this point, they sit back and have a read through their "to do list" to see what is the next thing they are going to do, then they say "I will do that tomorrow."

Successful affiliate marketers procrastinate in a positive manner, unsuccessful affiliate marketers just procrastinate.
